Below are the colors we created at the Columbia Greenmarket on September 9th. We used mums and kale from Stannard Farm, Washington County, NY, and celery from Acevedo Farm in Orange County, NY. Join us Saturday Sept 29th at the Brooklyn Borough Hall greenmarket. We will there from 10am-3pm creating dyes!
Many thanks to everyone who helped Textile Lab felt together two amazing textiles to give to the farmers at Garden Of Eve and Norwich Meadows Farm. The farms bartered food in exchange for handcrafted textiles at the Unsold Supper Event on Saturday. The feast was incredible… it was an amazing end to a beautiful day at the market!
Join Textile Lab tomorrow Saturday September 15th from 4-6 with our friends from Our Goods to engage, create and feast at the “Unsold Supper” Event. We will be felting gifts to give to the farmers using local, naturally dyed fiber!

We made dyes last week at the Tompkins Square Market with sage and radish tops from Acevedo Farm, Pine Island, NY. Below are the colors and pictures from the market. Please join us this Saturday 9/15 [UPDATED: at the Union Square Greenmarket]. We will be there from 3pm-6pm creating dyes and spinning local, naturally dyed fiber!
At the Greenpoint Greenmarket we created dyes with rosemary and cilantro from Osczepinski Farm, Goshen, NY. Farmer Joe from Healthway Farms gave us some red cabbage to make dye with! Here is the color palette:
We had a successful visit to the Greenmarket at the Fort Greene Park last Saturday. We made dye with marigolds from Rexcroft Farms in Athens NY, carrot tops from Conuco Farm in New Paltz NY and mint from J Glebocki Farms LLC.
We also met many people from the Fort Greene neighborhood. There were many questions about the natural dye process, and inquiries about where to buy the gorgeous local fiber we had with us. Check out the pictures below. Don’t forget to join us this coming Saturday August 25th at the McCarren Park Greenmarket. Textile Lab will be there from 10am-3pm.
The community at Inwood includes many people who are interested in sustainability and the environment. Many visitors stopped by Textile Lab to learn about natural dyes. We created dyes with sunflowers and eucalyptus from J Glebocki Farms, Orange County NY.
Mariko Hashimoto visited the lab. Mariko is a licensed Aromatherapist and Esthetician who lives in Inwood where she practices her aromatherapy and creates scents from plants: maliliko.com
We were stationed next to the stand of Hudson Valley Duck farm, where Ruby, who works the stand, offered fiber information to visitors. Ruby is a long time resident of Inwood and a fiber fanatic!
Join us this saturday 8/18 at the Fort Greene Park Greenmarket in Brooklyn. We will be there from 10am-4pm with yarns dyed with sunflower and eucalyptus!

Textile Lab will be visiting the GrowNYC Greenmarkets starting Saturday August 11th! We will be at the Inwood market from 10am-3pm harvesting plants and flowers to make dyes and spinning local wool. Check out our schedule to see when the lab will be at your neighborhood Greenmarket!

Join Textile lab this Saturday 10/15 at the Union Square pavilion for the Loop De Loop Recycling event! We will be there from 11am-3pm dyeing T-shirt shopping bags with flowers and plants collected from the greenmarket.
The Textile Lab visited the New Green City event sponsored by GrowNYC Union Square. We parked next to the City Atlas crew, and made dyes with eucalyptus and cabbage from the greenmarket. We met Johanna from Herbal Garden of East NY. See her pictured below sporting her hand knitted coat and hat!
The lab will be at two locations this Saturday 10/8. We will be at the Greenpoint market in Mc Carren Park from 10am-2pm, and then we will be going to Smorgasburg on the Williamsburg waterfront from 3-5. Come see us create natural dyes, and spin! We will have yarn and products for sale.
A trip to the greenmarket at Socrates Sculpture Park is a great way to spend a Saturday…nature, art and fresh local produce. We took advantage of the vegetable and flower offerings from J. Glebocki and Lucky Dog Farms. Dyes were made from sunflower, zinnia, fennel and onion skins!
See the Textile Lab at the Dumbo Arts Festival this Saturday 9/24 from 2-5 pm. We will be in the Tobacco Warehouse on Water St working on a giant collaborative felted textile! The textile is made from local, naturally dyed wool, and reclaimed textiles.
