The Earth Institute is presents Arubas Vision for Creating Sustainable Prosperity with Michiel Godfried Mike Eman, Prime Minister of Aruba.

The Government of Aruba is implementing a broad strategy for creating sustainable prosperity that includes moving to renewable energy, developing a sustainable economy and creating the conditions for stronger communities. The Government is working to transition Aruba completely off fossil fuels by 2020. With the establishment of a Renewable Energy Research and Education Institute, and partnership with The Carbon War Room, Aruba plans to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and rely on alternative sources of energy, such as wind, solar and wave. On all levels of Aruban society, sustainable initiatives have been taken up to involve the whole population in this project and to become the first fully sustainable island on earth.

Mixing independent policy making and strategic international partnerships, the small island nation of Aruba is poised to become a leader in social and technological development in the Caribbean. The Prime Minister will discuss Arubas strategy to move ahead with this ambitious goal of pursuing sustainable growth. He will expand on the governments pursuit of public-private partnerships to improve the islands infrastructure, education, and health care, and will discuss Arubas potential as a center of green energy innovation.
