Design in the Age of Efficiency

June 27, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free – $10

With recent legislation, new construction and major renovations of New York City-owned buildings now have to meet some of the highest efficiency standards in the nation. Local Laws 31 and 32 of 2016 amend the city’s current sustainability requirements and introduce new measures that will make municipal buildings some of the most efficient in the country. LL31 requires all capital projects on city-owned property to use no more than 50 percent of the energy used today. LL32 will require all capital projects for city-owned properties to achieve a minimum of LEED v4 Gold certification.

The impact of these local laws promises to reach even further than the city’s vast municipal portfolio—totaling 5 percent of the city’s building stock—as New York’s designers and builders are driven to create a new generation of hyper-efficient buildings, ultimately advancing building practices in the private sector and perhaps even worldwide given the international reach of many NYC firms.

Learn about the new laws with policy and design experts, and discuss what they may mean for the building industry. Refreshments will be served.
