FitCity 9: Promoting Physical Activity through Design

May 19, 2014 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free

NYCRunnerAIA New York, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, is holding the eighth-annual FitCity 8 conference at the Center for Architecture on Monday, June 24, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (and via a livestream available here).

Speakers and participants will examine how design of the built environment can create opportunities for increasing physical activity and access to healthier food and beverages. The program brings together architects, planners, designers, landscape architects, developers, and public health professionals to discuss how design, policy, and practice decisions can address the key health epidemics of our time: obesity and related chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancers and asthma.

Conference participants will also hear how the strategies included in the Active Design Guidelines, released in January 2010, are being implemented at New York City agencies, in the private sector, and in communities across the world.

Registration opens at 8:00 AM; the program begins at 8:30 AM.
