Over the years sports have become a much larger part of everyday life. Today, millions of Americans watch their favorite athletes on TV and play sports in their free time. However, this was not always the case. Prior to the industrial revolution not many people had leisure time and athletics were not a major component in their lives. But, as cities began to develop, sports started to become mainstream. As a result people needed space in order to play their favorite games.

Take a tour and discover how tastes in recreation have changed since the mid-19th century. Listen and be amazed by how Central Park has ultimately evolved in order to cater to those tastes. Be advised that this route involves climbing a few stairs.
