Hurricane Sandy anniversary planting in the Rockaways

October 19, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

For the two year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, Rockaway Waterfront Alliance (RWA) is bringing people of all ages together to create a nature protective buffer for the Rockaway community.

As we learned from the storm, the natural vegetation and dunes that exist off our shores served as a protective buffer to the homes and businesses that exist in these areas. Many of these dunes were compromised by the storm and need to be replenished to be effective.

Families and people of all ages are welcome to participate in this dune restoration planting & biomimicry project. Students can receive community service hours. No registration is required. This event is rain or shine, so please dress accordingly.

Special thanks to NY State Department of Environmental Conservation and National Fish & Wildlife Foundation for their support.
