The NYS Canal Corporation and Parks & Trails New York need your help for the annual Canal Clean Sweep. Last year’s event was a great success, but we want to make this year’s Clean Sweep even bigger! Most of this year’s event will take place Friday-Sunday, April 21–23, Earth Day weekend. Volunteer with the Stewardship Team to plant trees in the forest in Jamaica Bay Park! Trees provide so many benefits to New Yorkers such as improved air and water quality, reduced pollution, and lower energy costs. Volunteers will be trained in proper planting techniques. Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Please bring your own water bottle for this event. The March for Science is a celebration of our passion for science and a call to support and safeguard the scientific community. Recent policy changes have caused heightened worry among scientists, and the incredible and immediate outpouring of support has made clear that these concerns are also shared by hundreds of thousands of people around the world. The mischaracterization of science as a partisan issue, which has given policymakers permission to reject overwhelming evidence, is a critical and urgent matter.
