Governors Island Alliance Family Festival
Where can you dance to live music, blow gigantic bubbles, laugh with crazy clowns, and literally tumble across the harbor? At the Governors Island Alliance’s 9th Annual Family Festival, of course! Celebrating the startof the summer season, the festival is a jamboree of creative arts and harbor education, and it’s all free!
Kicking off the summer season at GIA’s 9th Annual Family Festival with tunes, jives, crafts and more! Highlights from our Family Festival schedule this year include:
- Performances throughout the day by The Maybelles, Arm of the Sea Theater, Astrograss for Kids, Michael Arenella, and Julie Pasqual.
- An amazing puppet-making workshop hosted by Lisa Abbatomarco, face painting by Better Than Jam, arts and craft activities by the Children’s Art Museum Island Outpost;
- Exciting environmental and harbor education activities with the New York Urban Assembly Harbor School, the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance, The River Project, and Earth Matter; and
- Fun lawn games, bubble-making, and bouncy-house tumbling with GIA, Sage Logan, and the Harbor School PTA…and more!
Family Festival is also the perfect time to learn all about what great artists and events are coming to Governors Island this summer! On-Island partners will be there to give you a glance of what to expect for the bombastic 2013 season.
Mark your calendars and spread the word - GIA’s 9th Annual Family Festival on May 25th from Noon to 4pm is sure to be a summer celebration to be remembered!
Volunteers Needed at: Earth Matter’s compost table will offer lessons in creating worm nurseries, compost sifting, and give away compost literature. Volunteers needed for source separation, education, collection and tabling. Email volunteers@earthmatter.org for more info.
