The Land Art Generator Initiative (LAGI), a visionary project to promote the design and installation of energy-producing artworks around the world, has partnered with the New York City Parks Department to host an energy design competition for the new 2200 acre Freshkills Park in Staten Island: New York City’s largest park. The competition deadline is July 1; the prize is $20,000.

The organizers are also hosting a parallel competition for high school students who are interested in submitting ideas on how to power NYC with art. The prize at the high school level is $1000.

LAGI also provides a rich, thorough online tutorial on energy and on renewable generation systems, providing a grounding for designers that would like to consider generation as an aspect of creative projects. The initiative’s overall goal:

Through simple acts, we can influence public opinion and convince the world that sustainability is not just about resources, but also about social harmony. Let’s imagine and design a sustainable future.”
