It’s almost time for Spring cleaning and the NYC Department of Sanitation is ready for the onslaught of potentially harmful household products that too often get tossed into residential garbage collection.  The Bureau of Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling has organized SAFE (Solvents, Automotive, Flammable, Electronics) disposal events in each of the 5 boroughs.

Many items will be accepted at the disposal events, especially those with the words: DANGER, WARNING, or CAUTION.  Some of the common items include: electronics, nail polish and nail polish remover, bleach, paint and paint thinner, batteries, and medications.  Check the site for a list of many more items that will be accepted for drop-off.

Drop-off events will be held from 10am – 4pm at the following locations:

Manhattan:   Sunday, April 22  –  North Plaza at Union Square (south of 17th St. between Park Ave. & Broadway)

Queens:   Saturday, April 28  –  St. John’s University, Alumni Hall Parking Lot (corner of Utopia Parkway & Union Turnpike)

Brooklyn:   Sunday, May 6  –  Prospect Park, Park Circle (corner of Parkside Ave. & Prospect Park SW)

Bronx:   Saturday, May 12  –  Lehman College, South Lot (on Goulden Ave., south of Bedford Park Blvd. West)

Staten Island:   Saturday, May 19  –  Staten Island Mall, Parking Lot F (near main entrance, 2655 Rickmond Ave.)
