SUMMARY:Urban Reviewer Residency Unveiling
DESCRIPTION:Image:  Colonel’s Row in Governors Island www.govisland.com \nUrban Reviewer (http://www.urbanreviewer.org) is New York City’s first detailed\, annotated digital map of master plans from the Urban Renewal era. The tool\, created by 596 Acres\, details over 150 plans for top-down neighborhood redevelopment\, which have affected more than 15\,000 lots throughout the five boroughs since 1949. 596 Acres will be showcasing the tool as well as premiering an interactive physical map within Spontaneous Interventions’ summer residency on Governors Island (http://www.spontaneousinterventions.org/) from THURSDAY\, JULY 24TH THROUGH SUNDAY\, AUGUST 17TH. This premiering event is on July 24th and is free and open to the public. It will be at Building 403 in Colonel’s Row (adjacent to the Parade Ground) on Governor’s Island. Come say hi! \nSpontaneous Interventions: design actions for the common good was first presented as the exhibition of the U.S. Pavilion at the 13th International Venice Architecture Biennale in Fall 2012. It documents the nascent movement of designers acting on their own initiative to solve problematic urban situations\, creating new opportunities and amenities for the public. 596 Acres is excited to participate once again! For the ferry schedule to and from the island visit http://www.govisland.com/html/visit/directions.shtml

SUMMARY:Religious Communities for Divestment and Reinvestment
DESCRIPTION:Religious communities everywhere are living out their call to protect Creation by organizing to divest their endowments and pension funds from fossil fuel holdings\, and reinvesting in a clean energy future. This group welcomes members of all faith traditions who want to learn more about how their congregations can mitigate the worst effects of climate change with a well-organized divestment and reinvestment strategy. \nThe June meetup was a great success\, with the best attendance of any yet! \nWe agreed that there would be two “asks” of group members for July: \n1. Review the materials available online for GreenFaith’s Divest & Reinvest Now! campaign:http://greenfaith.org/programs/divest-and-reinvest \n2. Work on a divest & reinvest “elevator pitch\,” i.e.\, your 2-3 minute verbal summary of why someone (from your own congregation\, for example) should support a divestment & reinvestment effort. We will try out our elevator pitches on each other!
