SUMMARY:Summer Streets NyC
DESCRIPTION:Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City’s most valuable public space—our streets. On three consecutive Saturdays in August\, nearly seven miles of NYC’s streets are opened for people to play\, run\, walk and bike. Summer Streets provides space for healthy recreation and encourages New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation. In 2013\, more than 300\,000 people took advantage of the open streets. \nSummer Streets is modeled on other events from around the world including Ciclovía in Bogotá\, Colombia and the Paris Plage in France. The event is part bike tour\, part walking tour\, part block party—a great time for exercise\, people watching\, or just enjoying summer mornings. Passersby are weclome to participate in arts and crafts workshops\, listen to musical performances\, learn to salsa dance\, eat healthy snacks\, climb a 25′ climbing wall\, soar through the sky on a 160′ zipline and explore a 179 years voice tunnel. \nHeld between 7:00 am to 1:00 pm\, Summer Streets extends from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park\, along Park Avenue and connecting streets\, with easy access from all points in New York City\, allowing participants to plan a trip as long or short as they wish. All activities at Summer Streets are free of charge\, and designed for people of all ages and ability levels to share the streets respectfully. \nWith nearly 7 miles of open streets\, 5 rest stops and a seven-block-long art installation in the Park Avenue Tunnel – there is plenty to explore at Summer Streets. And remember\, everything at Summer Streets is free! \nClick here for full event listings!

SUMMARY:Public Art in Downtown Manhattan
DESCRIPTION:Photo Credit: http://www.theepochtimes.com/ \nDowntown Manhattan’s public art includes many references to early New York City history and examples abound in the imposing George Washington in front of Federal Hall\, the old Customs House featuring Beaux Arts sculptures of the Four Continents that tell tales about America’s sense of identity at the turn of the Century and of course the famous Wall Street bull which can be rubbed for good luck! Similarly\, Battery Park is full of thoughtful memorials to our immigrants\, and to the fallen heroes of war.  More modern art can also be found throughout the area and we’ll see sculptures by leading artists like Louise Nevelson\, Jean Dubuffet\, Isamu Noguchi\, Keith Haring\, Mark di Suvero and many more. This tour with art historian Sylvia Laudien-Meo will also explore the “Canyon of Heroes” along Broadway that honor all the people that have been honored with a ticker tape parade since 1886. Cost: $20 / $15 Members  \nNotes: \nPlease purchase tickets online or call (212) 935-2075\, Monday-Friday 9-5.\nMeeting locations are provided after tickets are purchased.\nAll tours proceed rain or shine.\nNo refunds or exchanges.
