SUMMARY:Rise for Climate\, Jobs\, and Justice: Now is the Time for Action!!
DESCRIPTION:The weekend before San Francisco’s Global Climate Action Summit\, the Peoples Climate Movement will lead a national mobilization for climate\, jobs\, and justice. \nSeptember 8th will be a moving demonstration of the breadth and depth of the climate movement. Across the country\, tens of thousands of people will show our power by hitting the streets\, holding community forums\, and educating voters about the issues – all to ensure that elected and private sector leaders make action on climate a priority. \nFrom Seattle to Miami – and everywhere in-between – activists and non-activists alike will come together to demonstrate to the world that on this day\, and every day\, climate matters. Like the National Day of Action in 2015\, September 8th is about more than just numbers; it’s about telling the story of climate\, jobs\, and justice; it’s about showing that to change everything\, it takes everyone – including you; and it’s about committing to make climate action a part of the national dialogue in November\, in the months that follow\, and well into 2019 and 2020.

SUMMARY:River to River Festival
DESCRIPTION:projects at 31 unique sites across Lower Manhattan and Governors Island. The Festival also offers opportunities for audiences to interact with artists\, socialize and experience multiple facets of artists’ work and the creative process. This year’s River To River Festival is dedicated to Trisha Brown and David Rockefeller. \nRiver To River is a platform for diverse voices and untold stories. The Festival explores Lower Manhattan and nearby Governors Island with forward-thinking\, boundary-blurring artists across all disciplines to reveal both new and existing—but often overshadowed—contemporary narratives about the waterfront\, the built environment and the past\, present and future of our neighborhood. LMCC and the Festival are identifying and illuminating local\, pressing artistic and social issues in the global context of New York City. With the Festival\, we carry on an ever-important legacy of artists making work in and for the public sphere\, particularly in Lower Manhattan\, and we are committed to continuing to offer this free programming to all audiences! \nThe Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s wide-flung free celebration has many exciting offerings in 2017. Participating artists include En Garde Arts\, Netta Yerushalmy\, Jodi Melnick\, John Monti\, Beth Gill\, Faye Driscoll\, Marjani Forté-Saunders\, Maria Hassabi\, Kamau Ware\, Kameelah Janan Rasheed and the Dance Cartel. DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION\n\n\n\n11:00 am to 2:00 pm – Kick Off Event and Tree Planting (Fruit Tree Planting Foundation\, DeWitt Clinton High School Sustainability\, vitafusionTM\, actress Jennie Garth)\n2:00 pm to 3:00 pm – Tree Care Workshop (Fruit Tree Planting Foundation and NYC Compost Project)\n3:00 pm to 4:00 pm – Meeting with Principal Pierre Orbe (Community and Project Partners)\n3:00 pm to 7:00 pm – Bronx Music Garden with DJ Omar Morsy and guest performers as well as ongoing Sustainability\, Art and Garden Projects – lots to get involved with!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails\nThere’s a full day happening at the new community garden at DeWitt Clinton High School on June 6. The makers of vitafusionTM\, the #1 adult gummy vitamin brand\, has joined forces with the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (FTPF) to officially launch the “Fruit Tree Project” at our school and have donated to us 35 fruit trees to start an orchard! We are inviting you to lend a hand\, dig\, move compost\, learn how to plant and take care of trees and support our efforts to further transform our environment and feeds our community healthy fresh food. \nWe will gather at 11:00 am with actress Jennie Garth to kick off the day and will get to learn more about this project as well as The Baldwin Learning Center and Trail Project\, a reimagination of urban public space on the DeWitt Clinton High School campus and the surrounding neighborhood of Norwood in the North Bronx. Tree Care Workshop by Fruit Tree Planting Foundation and NYC Compost Project will follow planting event. \nDJ Omar Morsy combines his love for gardening and music for this first ever Bronx Music Garden event. With our majestic new community garden as a backdrop\, the rhythms will pulse our Bronx students and neighbors as we plant\, play and groove to DJ sets with an earth beat in mind and live performances by Never Yet Contested and Ane. If you’ve been lucky enough to attend any number of our events over the last few years you will have already delighted in the delicious garden to table offerings of Executive Chef Noah Sheetz. With as many sustainability students as we can muster\, we’ll show you what we do: gardening\, community art making\, sustainability exhibits\, games and prizes. A unique and groundbreaking event with fun for all ages! \nThe Baldwin Learning Center and Trail Project is centered on the Dewitt Clinton High School campus and the surrounding neighborhood of Norwood in the North Bronx. This neighborhood has one of the highest percentages of green space to population in New York City\, but this wealth of public space remains inaccessible to the community. A century of poor urban planning has divided the neighborhood with highways\, elevated train lines\, and multi-block building towers. The neighborhood lacks well designed pedestrian or bicycle infrastructure\, making many intersections dangerous or difficult to navigate. This project seeks to reframe the school grounds as a next great public space and an entry point for an accessible urban trail system to connect underutilized areas of the Bronx. \n\n\n\n\n\n
