It is a one-day festival that features video and performance art by emerging artists and more established artists at the forefront of their media. \nLUMEN begins before the sun sets and continues until midnight. A New York summer staple now in its 17th year\, MoMA PS1’s highly anticipated Warm Up outdoor music series continues its tradition of introducing audiences to the best in experimental live music\, sound\, and DJs—both local and international—across a range of genres.Warm Up supports both established and emerging artists by creating a platform that allows for experimentation and providing a space for collaboration\, new material\, and side projects. \nWarm Up is held in MoMA PS1’s courtyard\, which this year will feature an installation by New York architecture firm The Living (David Benjamin)\, Hy-Fi\, the winning design of the 15th annual Young Architects Program (YAP). From nycedc.com\nThe Architectural League of New York’s 133rd Annual Meeting will feature tours of Sims Municipal Recycling\, Sunset Park Material Recovery Facility. \nAccording to the Architectural League: \n“Designed by Selldorf Architects\, the recently opened Sims Municipal Recycling\, Sunset Park Material Recovery Facility is a processing center for New York’s curbside metal\, glass\, and plastic recyclables.  Located on an 11-acre waterfront pier\, the structure is for and about recycling and reuse. \nDesigned to give character to what otherwise might be read as bland big box construction\, the pre-engineered structure was articulated by inverting structural elements to appear on the exterior\, emphasizing the visual impact of the steel girders and lateral bracing. The 140\,000 sf facility includes discrete areas for receiving recyclables by truck and barge\, sorting and processing\, storage\, and a public education center with display and learning spaces linked to the facility by a connecting bridge to a viewing platform. Recycled materials are incorporated throughout the complex\, from structural steel to site fill made from a composite of glass\, asphalt\, and rock reclaimed from the Second Avenue subway excavation. Other sustainable measures include one of the largest applications of photovoltaics in New York City\, bioswales for stormwater management\, and a soon to be installed wind turbine\, which is projected to generate 15% of the facility’s power. \nVisit Urban Omnibus for an interview with Outerbridge at the new facility where he discusses Sims’ work to expand recycling in the city through new infrastructure and public education\, the markets for post-processed recycled material\, the potential of large-scale composting\, and the challenges and future of reducing waste in New York City.” \nThe Annual Meeting is free and open only to League members\, who may bring up to one non-member guest. Their annually awarded Prize is one of North America’s most prestigious awards for young architects and designers. The theme of the 2014 competition was Overlay and asked designers how the idea of overlay creates discourse and tension between design solutions and the parameters used to review the work. An exhibition of the work of this year’s winners will be open daily from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm\, and on Thursday evenings until 8:00 pm. Admission is free. \nThe exhibition will also be open on the evenings of lectures given by the Prize winners\, on June 24 and June 26. Tickets to the lectures are free for League members and $10 for non-members.
