When New York City’s bike share program rolls out in July, the rental bikes will be spread out across 600 stations. To choose the best spots, the city has both an online map to take suggestions (8000 so far — apparently New Yorkers are never short of opinions), and beginning this week, a series of workshops held with community boards, as reported on WNYC’s series Transportation Nation. The community discussion around where to place the bike stations begins to give a sense of how the program could work — to bridge the distance from a subway stop to home for people on the West Side, or to allow commuters from Brooklyn or Queens easy access to wheels during the day while they are in Manhattan.
