Bird and building collisions: What you can do to help

Scroll this

We all have seen many types of birds in the city, especially pigeons, wandering next to the sidewalk and looking for food. It’s hard to know if they are on the ground because they are injured or if they are looking for food. Many birds in the city die every year due to collision with building windows. An estimated 9,000 birds are killed every year in New York City due to collision.[1]

If you are a bird lover you can easily volunteer to the New York City Audubon which works for the protection of wild birds and habitats in the five boroughs.

Additionally, New York City recently received its first Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, which gives some interesting tips on bird handling such as “How to Rescue a Bird that has hit a window” or “How to Rescue a Baby Bird”.
