Several recent press releases from the mayor’s office detail exactly how the Bloomberg Administration is tackling the issue of clean energy in the city. As part of the enormous PlaNYC project (see our previous posts about water supply, brownfields, waterways, and parks) the Mayor recently announced the tripling in production of solar energy and further plans to incorporate solar panels on city buildings such as schools and fire stations. You can read more about the announcement at Inhabitat. Another announcement from March calls for proposals from companies to build a facility near the city to convert solid waste into energy. All of this is part of the long-term goal to reduce NYC’s carbon emissions by 30% by 2030.
