As autumn begins, take time to pick up some fresh handpicked apples from Red Jacket Orchards or a delicious homemade cider from Willow Orchards.  Then, stop by and learn how to create a new dish from renowned chefs and get access to helpful information on ways to eat healthy.

The Borough Hall Greenmarket brings together neighborhood communities such as Clinton Hill and Brooklyn Heights by providing some of the most delectable local produce, from fresh meat and dairy products to organic honey.  Special events, such as the Greenmarket Education station, which holds cooking demonstrations, tastings, school tours, takes place frequently.

On Thursdays, free pre-screening for food stamps are available by the New York Coalition Against Hunger; a non-profit organization providing food needs to low income households across New York City.

On Saturdays, GrowNYC, a non-profit organization aiming to provide a quality of life through environmental programs in the communities, conducts a Clothing & Textile Recycling Collection. This allows the public to bring unwanted clothes and textiles to the market; in return it helps New York City’s residents to cut down on the city’s residential waste stream. GrowNYC, at the market, also conducts a drop off for food scraps. Its purpose is to compost scraps which can become useful in providing nutrients and quality in soil for trees and gardens in New York City.

Patrons are encouraged to bring scraps of fruits, vegetables and scraps of dry foods (rice, bread, cereal). Not only can one bring their food scraps for disposal at the green market, but can gain helpful insight through workshops that instructs how to compost food indoors as well as outdoors.

The market is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays until December from 8:00 a.m. to 6 p.m.
