Verdant Power has been awarded the first US license for a tidal power generation system. Over the next two years, 30 underwater turbines will be installed on the bottom of the East River and begin to provide hydropower for 10,000 residents of Roosevelt Island. Verdant has been testing parts of the system in the East River since 2002, and with this license, has moved forward to full scale practical application.
