As we found out late last year, New York is lagging on recycling while other cities are making great strides.  The New York Times reported that NYC, “recycles about 15 percent of the waste collected by the Sanitation Department, which is primarily from residences, down from a peak of 23 percent in 2001.”

One of the ways that we can work to reverse this trend is by participating in the NYC Department of Sanitation’s Apartment Building Recycling Initiative (ABRI).  ABRI provides opportunities for NYC apartment residents to become recycling leaders in their apartment buildings by helping to educated residents and building staff about the three R’s.  Check to see if you satisfy the program requirements.  When you attend the ABRI training session you’ll even get a free t-shirt!
