One of my favorite parts of the MoMA is the architecture and design gallery. It is fascinating to see our cities rendered as tiny models, each piece in its place, each miniaturized tree, car, and pedestrian walking on cardboard streets. Sometimes these models are made of Legos or even real pieces of trash, and they always reflect the cultures of their respective cities, the citizens’ dreams, and the technological advances of the various urban areas.

For all of us who enjoy these kinds of exhibitions, the New York Botanical Garden (in the Bronx) is debuting an exciting exhibition called the Holiday Train Show. Starting in November, a model on rails with wagons will run through a replica of NYC with its most representative landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, Yankee Stadium, and others made of leaves, nuts and other natural materials.

The exhibition will be on display between November 17th and January 13th, from Tuesdays through Sundays in the NYBG’s Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. In addition to the train model, the exhibition will also feature poetry, gingerbread, hot cocoa, puppets performances, documentary films, cocktail parties, and other events for children and adults.
