The Global Challenge of Implementing the Urban Sustainable Development Goals

ICI is hosting Aromar Revi to deliver a special public talk on “The global challenge of implementing the urban SDGs.” Mr Revi will discuss how the United Nation’s SDGs engage with the public’s understanding of sustainable development challenges, inspire public and private action, promote integrated thinking, and foster accountability.

Biographies:

Aromar Revi is currently the Director of the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), a national education institution committed to the equitable, sustainable and efficient transformation of Indian settlements. Mr. Revi is an international practitioner, consultant, researcher and educator with over thirty years of inter-disciplinary experience in public policy and governance, the political economy of reform, development, technology, sustainability and human settlements. He is a member of the Leadership Council of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), co-chair of its Urban thematic group, where he leads a global campaign for an urban Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). As a global expert on Sustainable Urban development; has helped mobilise a successful international campaign for an urban SDG as part of the UN’s post-2015 development agenda, which brought major global urban institutions (UN Habitat, UCLG, C-40, ICLEI, Metropolis, WUC, SDI and WEIGO) and over 200 cities and organisations together. Revi is an alumnus of IIT-Delhi and the Law and Management Schools of the University of Delhi. He is a past fellow of the India-China Institute.

Shagun Mehrotra is a Professor of  Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management at The

New School and is the founding Director of the Sustainable Development Solutions Center. Professor Mehrotra serves on UNSDSN’s Urban Thematic Group charged by the UN Secretary General as an external advisory group for the post-2015 development agenda. Mehrotra co-directs UCCRN, a global research network of 500 scholars and practitioners based in a 100 cities dedicated to urban climate change research and policymaking.
