The NY Assembly Committee on Consumer Affairs and Protection will host a hearing on July 30th for GMO Labeling Bill A3535-A. If passed, the bill will require that food products for retail sale in New York State that contain genetically modified materials must be clearly marked. There are several caveats to the bill, however. For example, food products from animals that are not genetically engineered but have been fed a diet of genetically modified food will not require specific labeling.

GMO-free activists are encouraged to attend the event and send out information about the assembly to as many social media outlets as possible, as a strong turnout will encourage the bill’s sponsor, Assembly member Linda B. Rosenthal, to reintroduce the bill at the next legislative session in January 2014.
