The Future of Waste in New York: A Lecture by Kathryn Garcia, Commissioner, NYC Department of Sanitation
To kick off Getting to Zero, Open House New York’s year-long series on the future of New York City’s waste system, Kathryn Garcia, Commissioner, NYC Department of Sanitation, will outline the steps the city has already taken to achieve these goals, the opportunities and challenges we will face over the next few years, and innovative practices that have the potential to transform the waste management industry.
Film Screening Fundraiser: Racing to Zero
For its Spring Fundraiser, the The Manhattan Solid Waste Advisory Board will be hosting a screening of “Racing to Zero.” This documentary explores San Francisco’s goal of reaching zero waste. In light of the recently announced OneNYC zero waste goals, we will host a panel discussion on where NYC stands in relation to SF.
Trash: New York City’s Battle with Garbage
This class will trace New York City’s protracted struggle to contain its solid waste burden, from the 19th century to the present.
