4th Annual Meatball Slapdown Fundraiser: April 4th
April 4, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$50 The Meatball Slapdown Returns!
Fourth Annual Fundraiser to take place at Brooklyn Brewery
On Thursday, April 4th at 7pm, Brooklynites will once again discover who’s slinging the hottest meatballs in town at the 4th Annual Meatball Slapdown. This year, the event is moving into more spacious digs at the Brooklyn Brewery, doubling the number of contestants dishing out balls.
Hosted by Brooklyn Grange and The Brooklyn Kitchen, this fundraiser supports two youth-driven educational programs: Brooklyn Kitchen’s Classrooms in the Kitchen, which will bring 15 school groups to its kitchen labs for cooking and butchering lessons this year, and Brooklyn Grange’s City Growers program, which is dedicated to educating New York City’s youth about urban agriculture and the environment.
Each year, the meatball competition gets more and more fierce. It takes big balls to lay it all on the line for “best meatball in NYC” bragging rights! Will Brooklyn Star, Ivan Ramen, Mile End, Buttermilk Channel or Ganso take home the title this year? Will Angelo Romano of The Pines be vindicated after an oven malfunction dashed his chances of a win back in 2011? Will Hugue Dufour work horsemeat or foie into an entry from M Wells?
The winner will be determined by popular vote as well as a panel of esteemed judges including Food Network’s Amanda Freitag, Meat Hook’s Tom Mylan and Ted Allen of Chopped. DJ Aperitif will be spinning vinyl all night and the party is sure to get saucy!
Brooklyn Brewery will be pouring beers all night long and Cloud Coffee will provide caffeination. A raffle will include prizes such as signed cookbooks, gift cards from local favorites like MilkBar and Vine Wine, and two VIP tickets to the Great Googa Mooga. View the most up-to-date list of competitors, judges, and more!
Tickets are available for pre-purchase here: $50 for unlimited balls and beers!

ABOUT CLASSROOMS IN THE KITCHEN
The Brooklyn Kitchen has been educating home cooks since 2006, and we know that the kitchen makes a great classroom. That’s why we open our doors to NYC Public Schools to share our passion for home cooking with children in grades 1-12. Students are invited to spend a day learning about food sourcing from our produce manager, the art of butchery from Meat Hook butchers, and from-scratch cooking from our chef instructors.
ABOUT CITY GROWERS
City Growers is a non-profit educational organization based at Brooklyn Grange, a one-acre rooftop farm in New York City. The organization’s mission is to coordinate and facilitate school and camp visits that engage young New Yorkers in educational tours and workshops on the farm and in the classroom.
Big thanks to our sponsors and our partners at the Brooklyn Brewery!
