South Bronx Unite, in collaboration with Los Muros Hablan, La Respuesta, Museo del Barrio and Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito, welcomes international muralists to Mott Haven from August 19-25, as part of a world famous international urban art festival bridging Mott Haven, El Barrio and Puerto Rico.

Reinforcing Mott Haven’s status as a cultural destination, the muralists will spend a week in the neighborhood painting two murals underneath the overpass at 138^th Street and Grand Concourse and attending a series of events sponsored by local businesses, Bronx Arts Space, Ceetay, The Clock Bar and NYG Studio.

“From the caves of the prehistoric age to the abandoned walls of modern urban centers, history has always been told through walls,” said Celso González, the founder of Los Muros Hablan in Puerto Rico. “This is where legends, customs and social realities have always been documented.”

“The Mott Haven mural will focus on themes of our waterfront and environmental justice,” said Libertad Guerra, founder of Bronx-based arts organization Spanic Attack and member of South Bronx Unite. “For decades, our culturally- and artistically-rich community has been fighting against short-sighted policies that perpetuate use of our nine miles of waterfront as a dumping ground for waste transfer stations, power plants and trucking centers.”
