Brooklyn Waterfront Epic Ride
July 27, 2014 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Brooklyn waterfront biking. From https://www.sidetour.com
Join Brooklyn Greenway Initiative and partners for a 40-mile bike ride along the Brooklyn-Queens waterfronts. Registration is required, and tickets are $30 for Brooklyn Greenway Initiative members and $40 for others.
Starting at Newtown Barge Playground, Greenpoint, the route showcases the potential of a fully completed Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway combined with a completed Jamaica Bay Greenway. The ride will finish at Beach 81st St, Rockaway Beach. Rest stops will be offered at Owls Head Park, Bay Ridge and Ryan Visitor Center, and Floyd Bennett Field.
Following the ride, join the after-party at the beach with food from the Rockaway food vendors and a swim in the ocean. Participants can make their own way back independently via the A train or by bicycle.
Alternate starts are available at Owls Head Park (26-mile ride) and Floyd Bennett Field (14-mile ride).
By participating in The Epic Ride, you are supporting Brooklyn Greenway Initiative, the non-profit organization committed to the establishment, development and long-term stewardship of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. When complete, this 14-mile landscaped route for pedestrians and cyclists will connect neighborhood parks and open spaces from Greenpoint to Bay Ridge.
For those who are not registering and biking, there is also an opportunity to join GrowNYC’s Office of Recycling Outreach & Education (OROE) as a volunteer and help spread recycling vibes at the Epic Ride. GrowNYC is dedicated to educating fans about recycling and the importance of environmental stewardship. It believes that every person can make a difference and it relies on dedicated volunteers who are interested in inspiring others.
Volunteers will be on hand and in force, helping attendees recycle and compost properly at event waste station bins, answering questions about which items can be recycled and why, as well as what food scrap composting is all about.
Event Day Volunteers will be stationed at one of the following stops:
- Start line
- Rest Stops at Owls Head Park, Bay Ridge or Floyd Bennett Field
- Finish Festival at Rockaway Beach
No experience necessary to volunteer and comprehensive training will be given before your shift.
In appreciation for your hard work you will be guaranteed the opportunity to pre-register for The Epic Ride 2015 and receive discounted registration for one of Brooklyn Greenway Initiative’s sporting events. Every volunteer receives an official Epic Ride t-shirt. Please pick your t-shirt size when registering as a volunteer.
All volunteers must be 18 or older. The volunteer event organizer is Ana Paula Paglione, who can be contacted at apaglione@grownyc.org or with the phone number 646-737-3245. The webpage for the volunteer opportunity can be found here and contains information about the four volunteer time slots.
