Come check out the world’s largest rooftop farm in Brooklyn’s Navy Yard! The guides from the Brooklyn Grange will tell you about our their operations and farming methods, the basics of their business model, and the environmental benefits of urban agriculture and rooftop farming, then give you some time to explore.
Brooklyn Grange is the leading rooftop farming and intensive green roofing business in the US. They operates the world’s largest rooftop soil farms, located on two roofs in New York City, and grow over 50,000 lbs of organically-cultivated produce per year.
The Brooklyn Navy Yard’s BLDG 92 Museum is a great place to learn and explore. Showcasing the history and innovation of The Brooklyn Navy Yard from the Revolutionary War to the revolution in jobs and industry happening in present day NYC, the museum is free to the public and has a revolving schedule of amazing exhibitions. It is open from 12pm till 6pm on Wednesdays; hours on other days and more info are available on their website.
In addition to your tour of the farm, experience the “Past, Present & Future” of the Navy Yard on a guided tour of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at BLDG 92. BLDG 92, housed in both the 1857 Marine Commandant’s House and a LEED Platinum green building, is home to interactive exhibitions which explore contributions made at the Yard to American industry, technology, innovation and manufacturing.
