Don’t know what to do with old or broken electronics that are lying around at home? Come to the summer E-waste recycling event sponsored by Tekserve with support from ConEdison, and New York Community Trust!

E-waste recycling is an important aspect of protecting the environment. E-waste that is not properly disposed can cause leachate, a liquid that has dissolved or incorporated environmentally harmful materials. Leachate can be harmful to human health because it can flow into ground water, increases pollution, and releases harmful chemicals into the air and water. Once leachate occurs, it is expensive, and difficult to treat and contain.

Another benefit of E-waste recycling is the conservation of materials! Many of the materials in electronics require geologic processes that took millions of years to form!  If these materials are not reused, we will surely run out of them before they can be replenished.

You can also stop by the E-waste Warehouse at 469 President Street, Brooklyn to buy refurbished electronics. Store hours are Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday (10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.), Wednesday (12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.) and Saturday (10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.).

Special offers include a Green Karma coupon worth between $5 and $500 off any Tekserve products or services and a raffle ticket for a MacBook Air! Zipcar is also giving existing Zipcar members $15 in driving credit if you bring electronics to the event!
