Forecaster: New York Minute

February 7, 2014 @ 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

New York Minutes is a conversation with artists, architects, scholars, curators and collectors on the status of new museums, collecting practices, and the roles of architecture and the cities in which these institutions are lodged.

New York Minutes is a component of Collecting Architecture Territories, a research and teaching project that has been developed through courses held at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation (GSAPP). Conceived in 2012 as a collaboration between GSAPP and the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art, its core premise is that we are presently witnessing a shift in the historical relationship between architecture and collecting practices, one that inherited conceptions of the museum no longer adequately describe. Collecting Architecture Territories examines the veritable explosion of institutions and foundations that have emerged out of private art collections, one of the most significant developments reshaping the intersection of art and architectural practice over the last three decades.
