The National Park Service, New York City, and City University of New York are pleased to announce the Urban Resilience in an Era of Climate Change: Global Input for Local Solutions symposium on October 17-18, 2013 at Kingsborough College, Brooklyn, New York.

Building on past “State of the Bay” symposia, the event will highlight recent research and restoration efforts in Jamaica Bay and discuss the impacts of Hurricane Sandy on its ecosystem and watershed.

In addition, this year’s symposium will tackle a broader range of topics, including climate change, urban ecology, and community resilience. National and international experts will present strategies from cities around the world facing challenges similar to those of Jamaica Bay and the broader New York metropolitan region. The discussions will inform the agenda-setting for a new science and resilience institute located in Jamaica Bay.

The symposium is sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Natural Areas Conservancy
