Williamsburg’s Changing Landscapes

May 30, 2015 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Williamsburg, once known as the next step from the Lower East Side and as an industrial powerhouse, has become an international brand and sign of Brooklyn’s dramatic, even wrenching changes. Starting near the Williamsburg Bridge with journalist and guide Norman Oder, we’ll look at sections of Williamsburg that include repurposed banks, new galleries, eateries, and retail outlets, blocks stabilized by nonprofit/city investment, and a waterfront rezoned for towers. We’ll also see the tiny Fillmore Place historic district. The tour passes the former Domino Sugar Factory site, now on its second redevelopment plan, and will end near the Smorgasburg food festival. Please note that this tour moves at a brisk pace. Cost: $20 / $15 Members
