Welcome the return of crisp Autumn days with a walk in the park and learn to identify trees by the details: bark, buds, leaves and tree form. Get those sweaters on and come outside for an introduction to some stunning trees in fine fall colors.
The Center for Humans and Nature, in partnership with the Museum’s Center for Biodiversity and Conservation and the public radio program On Being, considers how the tapestry of humanity is woven. What does it mean to be human? Explore the interactions of culture and morality and meet other curious thinkers at the annual gathering, Questions for a Resilient Future.

Developed while she was an artist in residence at the Museum, Thunder & Lightning: Weather, Past, Present, Future brings Redniss’s unique style to a journey to the driest desert on Earth, to an island in the Arctic, and beyond. She considers the danger and beauty of weather, how it informs our history, and the forces that drive these meteorological events.
A tree tour with an unconventional flavor!
We will visit some oaks and appreciate these long-lived trees by foraging for and eating acorns (with a bit of preparation, of course).
This class will meet at Prospect Park, and exact directions will be sent the day before the class. Walk meets rain or shine.

The question of responsibility for climate change lies at the heart of societal debate over actions to address it. This symposium explores the conceptual territory of climate responsibility, and scientific, legal, ethical and policy bases for assigning responsibility to countries and to other entities - from individuals to emitting industries to the fossil fuel companies at the base of the carbon supply chain whose responsibilities are now being actively debated in shareholder resolutions and calls for institutional divestment.
In this talk, Jan Jongert presents Superuse Studios, developing from a design office using waste flows into a multidisciplinary creative studio exploring the circular economy. He shows how realizing small scale design, buildings, start-ups, collaborative networks, urban plans, and digital tools contribute to the development of a new resource-based design practice.
Our Urban Park Rangers will be your guides to the solar system, discussing the science, history, and folklore of the universe. The Taurid Meteor Shower produces 5-10 meteors per hour. In between, we will use telescopes to explore the night sky.
