Mac’s 24-Decade History of Popular Music is his most ambitious project to date, a subjective history of the 240 years since America’s founding told through the music of the times. For his very special Celebrate Brooklyn! debut, he’ll present a supercharged slice of this project: a politically-knowing, enormous of spirit, and outrageously entertaining romp through 100 years of culture as seen through songs that range from Tin Pan Alley to the birth of rock ‘n’ roll to disco and beyond.
Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City’s most valuable public space—our streets. On three consecutive Saturdays in August, nearly seven miles of NYC’s streets are opened for people to play, run, walk and bike. Summer Streets provides space for healthy recreation and encourages New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation!

Historian Julie Sze examines the link between race, class, and garbage and explores how culturally and politically disenfranchised communities re-work long-standing conflations between polluted places and peoples.
The talk will address case studies around NYC garbage politics in the 1980s and 1990s, while also considering at previous historical moments and sites outside the city.
