CITIZEN JANE is a timely tale of what can happen when engaged citizens fight the power for the sake of a better world. Arguably no one did more to shape our understanding of the modern American city than Jane Jacobs, the visionary activist and writer who fought to preserve urban communities in the face of destructive development projects. Director Matt Tyranuer (Valentino: The Last Emperor) vividly brings to life Jacobs’ 1960s showdown with ruthless construction kingpin Robert Moses over his plan to raze lower Manhattan to make way for a highway, a dramatic struggle over the very soul of the neighborhood.
From Oscar-winning director Luc Jacquet (March of the Penguins) comes a stirring portrait of French glaciologist, Claude Lorius, whose groundbreaking research in Antarctica gave us the first clear evidence of man-made global climate change. Film opens on 1/20 at Cinema Village.
Through sensations of depth, sound, and movement, this uniquely collaborative experimental media work is an instrument to view the city, as it examines the iconic geopolitical landscape of Lower Manhattan in ways not previously experienced. New York City is revealed to be a panopticon of frenetic urban renewals culminating in postmodern hyperspace, geopolitical tragedy and the entropic effects of climate change.
