Saturday Sculpture Workshop

Saturday Sculpture Workshops are organized for kids ages 5- 13 and their families. Workshops are free and offered in the park’s education area on a drop-in basis. Participants work with a different artist each week, exploring innovative art mediums and a variety of subject matter.

Ride the Tour de Queens!

This year’s Tour de Queens will start and end in tree-lined Astoria Park, a stone’s throw from the East River. The tour will be approximately 20 miles through some fabulous neighborhoods, including Long Island City, Sunnyside, Rego Park, Forest Hills, and Corona. Our rest stop will be at one of Queens’ most beautiful but overlooked parks, Juniper Valley Park in Middle Village.

Build a Community Garden in Far Rockaway with Transition New York City

Come out and join Transition NYC’s second workday. Plant more raised beds, and put up flyers for the Convergence at Rockaway retail stores. Burlap bags have amazing properties, and volunteers will be able to take home a stack of burlap bags to their own gardens.

Watershed Relief Map Presentation

New York City hosted the 1939 World’s Fair in Flushing, Queens. To show off the city’s water system that tapped mountain springs as far as 100 miles away, the Cartographic Survey Force, a branch of the Works Progress Administration, constructed a 3-dimensional model of the system out of wood and plaster for @ $100,000 (about $1.5 million in today’s dollars).
