A recent article over at Capital New York takes an in-depth look at the risks of a rising sea level on the city and what the city is planning to do about it. Sea level change is a real and dramatic outcome of climate change that often gets overlooked in favor of more tangible, short-term initiatives. The article points out the importance of planning for sea level rise as a reality, pointing out the drastic negative effects that sea level rise or extreme weather conditions could have on the city, especially in terms of transportation. As the city continues to grow, will this issue be factored into the development? Let’s hope so.
Here are some things that the New York Department of Environmental Conservation are doing in response to sea level rise.
